These starting pixel templates would be the rough foundation for game or art assets. By converting an image into an ordered grid of pixels, the process eliminates unnecessary hassle and creates a general idea of what the pixel art would look like. Then with additional detailing and polishing, developers can have professional assets in a matter of seconds. With millions of real-world images, developers now can get inspiration from any of them and use that in their games or art.

Additionally, if users wish to create their own palettes or reduce the colors of the image, we also have a feature for that.

And then there's the problem of static noise and ugly shapes. By reducing an image into pixel art, many of the pixels are forced to be a wide variety of colors to best approximate the larger image. For example, in a sunset, there are millions of colors that are squished down. Our palette tool does its best to fix this, but as you can see from the demo image at the top, it is still not enough. The palette is still applying to those noisy pixels causing spots and weird shapes all around the image. To fix this, we recommend spending a few minutes in post production to color match the loose and noisy pixels with their surroundings. This will clean up the art and create crisp lines that pixel art is known for.

As such, there are some issues that we are working to resolve with our image to pixel art tool. We knew this was going to happen from the start, and fully intended our tool to be used as a rough template. However, through the combination of automated conversion and thoughtful manual editing, it is possible to turn a rough, computer-generated base into a polished, professional-quality piece.
